In 2008, Discraft released this Distance Clinic video that would currently be viewed as a prehistoric fossil with today’s standards. Disregarding that, the content of the video gives us a glimpse into what was to come over the next decade and a half.

The video takes place on Hole X of the Toboggan course in Michigan. Mark Ellis introduces four bombers who proceed to crush 10 to 12 speed drivers 400–500+ feet up the rising fairway.

A few things I find interesting: Look at how unique each players form is compared to what you see on the DGPT in 2021. Today, professional players form is much more compact and efficient. This video shows Paul Ulibarri before he moved to an X-Step (check out how he generates power with his “hop step”). Gregg Barsby, Cale Leiviska, and Ulibarri all are featured in this video and are continuing to compete at a high-level on the Pro Tour today.

In the video they deem Robbie Bratten as the furthest thrower. Looking back, it’s not surprising at all. His form in 2008 would be acceptable in 2021. If anyone knows Robbie—tell him to let us know how far he can currently crush an ESP Predator.
